Architects presented today their competition entry for the new headquarter
campus of the Swiss Federal Department of Environment, Transportation, Energy
and Communication (UVEK).
The new UVEK–campus
is located in the green belt surrounding the country’s capital city of Bern. The master plan for
the campus consists out of a chain of buildings in a mixture with green fields,
vegetated courtyards and interior plaza’s. A lively pedestrian routing forms
the backbone of the campus and links the diverse interior and exterior spaces.
The new Verwaltungsgebäude will be the
centerpiece in this future urban campus. The new building is arranged around a
series of inner green courtyards, while the central pedestrian route crosses
east-west through the building, making it an integrated part of the campus
development. The architecture of the new headquarters expresses a dynamic
company culture of knowledge sharing, social identity, transparency and
sustainability. The prominent curved facade forms the main entrance, opening symbolically
as a large, welcoming gate and reflecting the surrounding landscape.
