This is a multi-functional building that
houses two distinctly separate programs (immigration center and
mediateque) in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world,
Jackson Heights, Queens. While the immigration center consists
of a program primarily responsible for the collection of information,
the mediateque has a program primarily responsible for the
dissemination of information. These conflicting programs suggest a
public vs private relationship. The project proposes to play with this
relationship allowing the public and private functions to wrap around
and pass through one another. The spectator and the spectacle become
one and the same. The architecture allows for oversight of the
immigration center and opens the doors of curiosity to the mediateque.Location: Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City
