Known as “The Bridge,” this project is a comprehensive renovation of three buildings, creating a distinctive and impressive urban office campus near Castello Sforzesco, in the heart of Milan. The project revolves around a shared private garden, built above three levels of underground parking. Each of the three office buildings has its own specific dimensions, constraints, opportunities, and architectural features, making this a unique and extensive renewal effort.
The domestic inner courtyard is designed to become a nice, intimate, and quiet “secret garden” full of greenery and seating places, to be used also for events and private exhibitions. The rooftop terraces, originally in derelict conditions and not in use, are redesigned to be used for multiple purposes, providing a unique 360° view of Milano Skyline, from the Duomo to the Castello Sforzesco to the recent high-rise developments in town.
The redevelopment of the main building facing Via San Giovanni sul Muro reinterprets the original façade maintaining the alignment and color tones of neighboring structures, while offering spectacular views of Castello Sforzesco and the private garden, and excellent natural lighting. In contrast, the internal L-shaped building features a curved glass façade that contrasts with the metal exoskeleton of the old structure. This new double-glazed façade creates a transparent appearance, reflecting the surrounding greenery and enhancing natural light. A smaller, older building completes the campus with its four floors and a new glass shed roof over the central patio. This roof, equipped with a curtain system and sensors, ensures consistent natural lighting throughout the day and year. The three buildings are interconnected across the upper and ground floors and through the private garden, each contributing unique geometries and materials to the campus.
