Located on the upper west side of Manhattan just south of Columbia University, this project called for
the extensive renovation of an early 20th century apartment for a couple with two small children. Our
clients were very keen on recreating the character and elegant detailing of the original apartment while
reconfiguring the spaces to accommodate a more contemporary lifestyle. Because of the building’s
age and the need to upgrade the electrical and plumbing services and add central air conditioning,
the apartment was completely gutted and rebuilt. The new plan maintains the principal rooms at
their original locations while improving circulation and creating larger closet and bathroom areas. The
kitchen and service areas were reorganized into a large eat-in kitchen, a home office and a small guest
bedroom suite. The living room, formal dining room and master bedroom face west with views of the
Hudson River. Our detailing of the interiors included new parquet floors, custom millwork and plaster
mouldings throughout.
