Saint Joseph’s University is committed to personal health among all students, faculty, and staff. To further well-being on campus, the university aims to transform an old, undersized, and disjointed facility into a dynamic recreation and fitness destination.
EwingCole performed a feasibility study and design services for a unified recreation center that reinforces university values for student success. The building’s previous primary use was recreation, yet several intercollegiate athletic programs were scattered within it.
Through a detailed demand analysis process — including user group engagement, peer institution benchmarking, and existing conditions investigation — EwingCole’s contemporary design addresses a wide range of programmatic needs:
Create new spaces for wellness Improve circulation and connections between adjacent spaces
Provide efficient and upgraded space for collegiate athletic teams
Improve MEP systems and add glazing to improve user experience
Provide universally accessible facility
Establish a single and secure point of entry
Brighten up the entire facility.
