This $100M, four-building project creates a bold new setting for interdisciplinary economics research, teaching, conferences and global outreach at the University of Chicago.
Located in a district listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this project transforms a former Seminary and block into a modernized setting for academic programs, collaboration, and research, preserving the most significant spaces and re-purposing them as unique academic resources. The site and landscape design transforms a city street, extending the historic campus quad and knitting the complex into the campus fabric. The first phase of this multi-phase project has achieved LEED Gold. The second phase includes a 38,000 sf Pavilion that accommodates research and workplace initiatives and connects to the Seminary and two renovated historic houses.
Winner of the Honor Award for Excellence in Planning from the Society for College and University Planning and a Honor Award for Design Excellence from the Boston Society of Architects, this project establishes an innovative model for campus planning, growth, sustainability, and stewardship and explores the discourse between historic and contemporary design.
