35AK is an apartment unit renovation project that is occupied temporarily and alternately by 4 families during their visit to Jakarta. With this 48 sqm unit, the owner asked for a wider family gathering area and more storage spaces.
In order to realize the owner's first request, we optimized the room's area and reconstructed the layout, both of which became our focus in designing this unit.
We see that the area of the two existing bedrooms can still be optimized according to needs. The layout of the rooms is arranged in such a way as not to form a corridor area like in the existing design which in our view is not very functional. Thus, the reduction of these areas can be allocated to increase the area of the living room, so that the owner can do activities and interact more intimately and comfortably with family members.
The layout arrangement of course still responds to the potential of the corner unit on the 35th floor. The best view towards the city and natural light during the day can still be felt in almost all areas of the unit.
In order to increase the capacity of the gathering area, the second bedroom is designed using a tatami bed that is integrated and on the same level as the built-in sofa in the living room, with the intention that this room can be used as an extension area from the living room when needed.
The solution for the second owner's request is to apply a lot of cabinet storage systems to make better use of vertical space as storage.
On the side of the entrance, there are shoe storage cabinets and electrical installation, which are designed with fluted camouflage panels so that this cabinet looks more like a backdrop design that has its own charm when entering the unit.
The kitchen, TV, and luggage storage cabinets are interconnected from the entrance to the master bedroom. A wardrobe is directly opposite the luggage storage cabinet to make it easier for the owner to move clothes. There is also a wardrobe in the main bedroom, bedding storage in the second bedroom, and a laundry cabinet in the bathroom.
All storage areas in the unit are designed with different functions. The placement is as wide as possible to accommodate all the owner's equipment and supplies.
As for the selection of materials, the pattern of installation & lighting in this unit is based on the goal that the owner can experience a much better and different experience than before. By creating a quality of space that is more comfortable, feels wider but still warm, as well as attractive.
Materials with a neutral color palette strike a balance. The soft green color was chosen as an accent to become an attraction. Natural colors and the application of Indirect lighting makes the room feel warmer. Mirrors that are applied in several areas change the user's perspective and create the illusion of a wider room.
