The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2023 Doha is a landmark project that showcases the fusion of tradition, sustainability, and contemporary innovation. Designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group and executed with the expertise of Conmarble Eco Finishes, the pavilion is built using rammed earth walls crafted from locally sourced Qatari soil. This unique construction method not only reflects the cultural identity of the UAE but also demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable architecture and eco-friendly design.
Spanning over 100,000 sqm, the pavilion is inspired by the Ghaf Tree, a resilient symbol of life in the desert. The structure features organic rammed earth walls, natural shading elements, and integrated gardens that create an immersive environment for visitors. Conmarble’s role in developing and building the rammed earth surfaces ensured the highest quality of craftsmanship while keeping the project’s carbon footprint minimal.
As part of Expo 2023 Doha, the UAE Pavilion received international recognition, winning the Gold Award for Best Self-Built Pavilion. With its combination of innovative sustainable techniques and cultural authenticity, this project stands as a model for future eco-conscious architectural developments in the region
