Crawford was hired to design the extensive renovation of the Palestra and Hutchinson Gym at the University of Pennsylvania. The demands of collegiate athletics and recreational fitness were needing to be addressed and updated. The project includes renovation to the existing building and an addition of an infill building.
Crawford Architects identified an imaginative redevelopment scenario that kept the historical fabric intact yet allowed the interior to be renovated to make way for new locker rooms, practice courts, squash courts and team rooms. Service areas were upgraded and a multi-function room for catered events expanded the University’s venue options and Upgraded the basketball venue to improve the fan experience and make the facility more flexible as a venue for large gatherings. This project is designed to be LEED Gold Certified.
