With a holistic, people-first approach; Trencin: Europe’s Healthy City celebrates Trencin’s traditional strengths while preparing for its bright future. Harnessing the vibrant energy of the city’s redevelopment and public engagement initiatives, while celebrating its rich history, the plan integrates many urban elements not always considered together, including economics, education, culture, mobility and a stunning natural environment, to create dynamic opportunities for current residents and coming generations.
The absolute basis for the healthy city is healthy people. Healthy people need high quality public spaces, green areas and recreational facilities, as well as quality walking and biking routes, to enjoy physical activity. They also need access to healthy food, inspiring educations and good jobs. Finally, healthy people need a built form that enables healthy functions.
The Old Herold Cradle To Cradle District is the 5th phase of Trencin Healthy City project in Slovakia. Basing industry in Old Herold on natural systems, the area will become Trencin’s first Cradle to Cradle district. Here, all material, energy and waste will be used for sustainable fashion, design and agriculture, while also powering these industries. As an “urban digester”, the Old Herold will lead a collective and participatory urban waste management that can bring some new circular industry oriented to design and urban innovation. Its direct connection to the city center through the Green Bridge can also promote it as a new core of development of the city at the other side of the River Vah.
