Townhall in Waghäusel/Germany
The new building with its office facilities is designed as an independent cubic structure with a square floor plan, which is developed from the given diagonal axis of the building.
The orthogonal floor plan structure of the old building has been adopted.
The extension is connected by the existing diagonal structure ,which ends up in a central atrium where the offices are clearly grouped around.
Scale and proportion of the new building are orientated towards the older building without creating any competitive situation. The dominance of the old building is accepted.
Through interaction between the bordering forest and park areas on the one hand and the old town hall on the other ,you will find clearly defined borders.
The new building appears as a compact cube, with a glass covered atrium-like hall, surrounded bei four office spaces.
This hall serves both as an access area for the offices and as a generous foyer for events.
