The apartment in a 1950s building in Prague’s Holešovice underwent a complete renovation that transformed its originally cramped layout into an open and airy home for a young family. The generous floor area and skeletal structure allowed for significant changes – most partitions were removed, and the exposed structural system of columns and beams became an integral part of the interior.
At the heart of the apartment, a green core with a walk-in closet and bathroom sets the rhythm of daily life. Around it unfolds the main living space, oriented towards the square with views of the city, while the bedroom and children’s room face the quiet courtyard. Color accents – the green core and blue built-ins of the study and library – define different zones and bring freshness to the interior. Transparent partitions create a workspace, while white built-in cabinets provide ample storage and conceal an additional closet.
The material palette reflects the character of the building: concrete is complemented by cement finishes, oak flooring, and bold color surfaces. The apartment’s color scheme is based on three tones – green, blue, and pink – harmoniously combined to enrich the atmosphere. These tones are complemented by copper details, appearing in fittings, door handles, and bespoke lighting fixtures, which add a refined and distinctive touch. The original concrete beams, which did not match the clients’ vision, were unified with a cement screed, making them appear more subtle and visually lifting the low ceilings.
