The Warehouses are a new and unusual residential-cum-commercial development on Aarhus Island. It is based on the concept of community and created to buzz with life from early morning until late evening, seven days a week.
The Warehouses ('Pakhusene' in Danish) is a distinctive, innovative development on Aarhus’s new waterfront. It is distinctive by virtue of its strict lines, tactile brick façades and 35,000 m2, and innovative by virtue of its focus on exploiting the opportunities of a sharing economy. That means the Warehouses will be a powerhouse with a focus on community: a powerhouse that will merge residential and commercial units to create a diverse waterfront district that will exude life from early morning until late evening.
Inspired by the sharing economy, the companies and residents will have the opportunity to share a wide range of facilities: ranging from a gym and sauna in the basement to conference rooms, a canteen and a communal roof terrace. During the day, for instance, companies can book the rooms for meetings; while in the evening residents can book them for more social, community-building purposes. Meanwhile, at weekends, the companies’ shared canteen can be transformed into a restaurant open for anyone in the city. Everything is aimed at creating a building that extends beyond itself, generating value for companies, residents and the city in a wider perspective.
"Aarhus is undergoing a very positive development, especially on the waterfront, where we have now taken over the first stage of the office building of the future in the shape of the Warehouses. With this type of high quality building, we will enhance the profile of Aarhus as a commercial city, while pension-savers will get a good return." - Michael Bruhn / CEO of PFA Properties
