The concept for this complex building transformation was the unification of various elements of the athletic complex under one roof. The design team immersed itself in Jayhawk athletics, developing a deep understanding of the experience of a recruit, student athlete, and coach during a typical day—whether a first impression, academics, advising, practice, or game day experience.
New facilities include men’s and women’s basketball practice facilities directly connected to the existing volleyball facility, coaches’ suites, locker rooms and game day facility. This allows basketball and volleyball teams to practice simultaneously and allows the new practice facility to focus on the needs of basketball players.
The renovated clubhouses include locker rooms, a lounge, a video room, training rooms, a cardio room, equipment and laundry facilities, and an area for pre-game meals. Larger NBA-quality lockers have integrated technology that supports video, messaging and music.
Coaches’ office suites have been remodeled with state-of-the-art video systems and direct views to the practice facility. A central video editing room connects to the practice facility as well as every office, conference room, and clubhouse.
A new Student Academic Center is dedicated to the specific needs of student-athletes, housing administrative offices, group tutor rooms, and the Compliance.
