“Minimalism is the pursuit of the essence of things, not the appearance.”
THE UNBOUND, a dwelling unit for young couple and a kid is designed as the extension on the existing building in the narrow district of Bangalore, where all the buildings are built to the edge, which had a decisive influence on its design. The result is peripheral walls with large open spaces with multifunctional units .The spaces are designed as contemporary, minimalistic and restful creates unique ambience during the day & night. Effective utilization of limited availability of space in response to the client’s functional requirements was perceived as a piece of sculpted art form.
The unit, its size was challenging to create openings from the side. Final design was realized through the creation of flexible spaces by creating multifunctional units which are used from both the sides, helps in maximizing the functional spaces. Partitions not only demarcate area but also act as physical and visual barrier resulting in various spatial experiences. These partitions are perfectly articulated into the space which defines every function of the area followed by its own characteristic, emphasizing the closure at the end.
MATERIAL PALETTE: Wisely chosen colour palette and material texture changes the ambience drastically with volumetric illusion of vastness of the space habituated. Use of white as major colour on walls and ceiling gives a sense of increased volume; with darker shade of flooring providing the required contrast. Monochrome for the master bedroom retains the classic appeal contrasting with use of vibrant colours for the kid’s room.
