The project is to redesign the interiors of a 1980s poorly-designed apartment block in Central, Hong Kong into a stylish serviced apartment. There are over 30 units of primarily 2 different types that are in irregular shapes. As the budget is very tight, we decided to use mainly loose pieces of furniture rather than built-in furniture.
As the old colonial Central Police Station and Prison, a major landmark, is right in front of the building, our design has taken a retro colonial feel as a response. The name of the apartment is renamed to “The Precinct.” Repolished old parque flooring, white-washed brick wall, natural wood furniture, soft furnishings and even graphics of the building all work along with this theme.
