Tucked within a former t-shirt shop, the Pines Room brings a pint-sized dose of nostalgia and warmth to an overlooked block of Park Ridge. This is the kind of place that feels like it’s been there forever, & that sense of authenticity is not a mirage. Herringbone wood floors were intentionally left exposed throughout construction to encourage a natural aging process, while existing stucco walls were only partially removed as the design team realized their value & durability. Pines measures just 450 square feet, but manages to use that space in clever ways - bending the bar itself so as not to use any more space than is absolutely necessary, & carving out conversational nooks throughout the length of the bar. Acoustical panels are concealed within the pressed-tin ceiling, to create a noticeably soft environment.
Working closely with a determined client, Via Chicago was able to deftly navigate the permitting process & secure approval for this vintage cocktail bar in a city that officially does not allow any new bars to open within the city limits. It has quickly been embraced by the community - filled to capacity on nearly every night, despite having no website or social media accounts.
