Pine is highly regarded as a symbol of elegance and a comfort to heart in the long history of China. The Xi’an Pine Gallery has referred to the linear space of Xi’an ancient walls, trying to define the boundary beyond time.
The project ideally nestles at the interaction of Yanxiang Road and Dulingyi South Road, in Qujiang New District of Xi’an City, Shanxi. Rooted in Qujiang Culture and inspired by the cultural symbols like Pine, Koi and Deer, the project is designed to be a modern and simple space with the theme of “The Dragon Touring Around Qujiang”
We use walls to deconstruct and reconstruct the space. To avoid stiffness and monotonousness as well as to form the atmosphere of a classical garden, we further interpret the spirit of the space by the combination of walls, corridors, columns, light and shadows.
Modern design always closely connects with the historical context in some way. We have introduced the linear space of the ancient Chang’an walls to the Pine Life Hall, separating and creating different spaces and reproducing “the Elegance of Qujiang”. It successfully shows the graceful lifestyle of ancient scholars.
