At 329 metres this landmark tower will be the tallest residential condominium in Canada even eclipsing the Chrysler building in New York City. Located at the high profile intersection of Yonge and Bloor, The One will feature an eight-storey retail podium as well as a below-grade connection to the TTC. The building also features a hanger exoskeleton structure with a rectilinear grid on all four facades braced by diagonal members at the corners.
The floor plate was designed to accommodate the preservation of the historic facades at 774-776 Yonge Street, as well as to maintain the views from neighbouring residential towers. A South facing amenity terrace on the podium will be heavily landscaped while incorporating decorative shading elements into the podium levels. Valet parking and parking stackers will also maximize garage capacity on a small site.
The tower elevator core structure is transferred at the top of the podium to allow large clear retail spaces with shuttle elevators being used to get from street level to the top of the podium. A tuned mass dampener at the top of the tower counteracts the force of the wind that would otherwise cause the tower to sway. Semi-enclosed balconies or winter gardens have been planned for residential units. This will not only provide exceptional residential experiences but will also break up the wind flows as they rush down the face of the tower, creating a better street-level experience.
