Unveiling The Artistic Spirit of Everyday Life with Sustainability in Mind
The Moving Craft aims to revolutionize the metro system, particularly intertwining with the local environment. Unlike how most metropolitans’ metro is primarily focused on functionality, our endeavor seeks to embed unique local identities into each line, with a leading example for New Taipei City’s Yellow Line. By welcoming skilled craftspeople, we challenge the traditional use of inexpensive and plastic-based materials, advocating instead for eco-friendly and domestic alternatives.
Through this project, we present a vision where each metro line is a canvas for local culture and identity, inviting both locals and tourists to experience and understand the essence of the locale. By focusing on craftsmanship, design, and sustainability, we are not only creating a more environmentally conscious transit system but also setting a new standard for public transportation globally.
The Moving Craft stands as a testament to the transformative power of design. Everything from the hand-woven chairs by the Corporate Body Taiwan Local Humanities Care Association, to the light softbox made from industrial stainless steel mesh, to re-designing the city metro map with greater characteristics, every detail is carefully considered to enrich the daily commute which connects with our locality.
This initiative speaks to governments, demonstrating that subway lines can be uniquely designed to reflect the spirit of the surroundings. It is a call to action for passengers and officials alike to reimagine the metro as not just a means of transport, but as a dynamic reflection of the city itself, adding beauty and vitality to the multilayered city.

The Moving Craft Shapes Tomorrow’s Transit
If you take a closer look, the metro looks the same almost everywhere around the world, with little to no characteristics or stand-out details. We challenge ourselves to change the perception of the metro design by introducing seating arrangements that experiment with unconventional use of materials in Taiwan's metro system. Rather than sticking to standard materials in many metros, we invited craftspeople who can turn environmentally friendly materials into something extraordinary. This shift in perspective towards sustainability is at the heart of our design ethos.
Through craftsmanship, design ingenuity, and a strong commitment to sustainability, this project sets a new standard for public transportation in Taiwan. It serves as a leading example for passengers and government agencies, urging a reimagining of the daily commute.
Our goal is to demonstrate that design can have a profound impact on our daily lives, even in the simplest aspects of commuting. The Moving Craft metro train stands as a testament to the possibilities for transforming routines, adding beauty, and infusing vitality into the fabric of the city. It invites everyone to be a part of creating a new outlook on public transportation, one that prioritizes sustainability, comfort, and aesthetics.
