A hotel plan in which part of the facilities will preserve and utilize a "Kyomachiya", or Kyoto merchant's townhouse, constructed in 1899 in Gion Festival's Yamabokocho, where Kyoto's history and culture live on.
The preservation/restoration and maintenance of Kyomachiya is difficult and many were torn down, but their appearance symbolizes the accumulated history of the city and the finishing touches and sense of space created using traditional construction methods is a culture that should be passed down. In this plan, the layout configuration of the townhouse was followed, combining the production elements of light, wind, and greenery and integrating the gardens, structures, and interior to reconstruct a beautiful space and lifestyle that fuses old and new in the facilities.
The current state of the front room facing the street was preserved and structurally reinforced, and the oppressive feeling of the high-rise section was suppressed by setting it back and using it as a background, with the aim of creating a cityscape with a feeling that the building had always been at this location. The raw materials of the existing building were incorporated into the new building after being carefully examined and having decayed portions restored, Full use was made of the raw materials and construction methods without shortage or excess, paying due respect to the historic building. By doing so, we hope that it will be passed down to future generations.
