The Grove is a vibrant mixed-use Market Hall that has quickly established itself as a beloved destination for dining and socializing within a developing, walkable neighborhood. Featuring a diverse array of restaurants and shops, the Grove offers both indoor and outdoor seating, creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone. Locals flock here, alongside families, friends, couples on first dates, and sports fans celebrating after baseball games, all drawn to its lively ambiance.
Inspired by Bend’s high desert landscape and its lodge-like architecture, the Grove is constructed from natural materials that harmonize with the surrounding environment. Its dramatic sloped roof and full-height windows evoke the essence of an outdoor covered market, providing an inviting venue for dining and retail that can be enjoyed year-round, regardless of the weather.
As the centerpiece of this burgeoning neighborhood, the 14,000-square-foot Market Hall serves as a community hub, a place where people gather to celebrate local food and music. Visitors are captivated by the light-filled covered market street and communal dining spaces, fostering a sense of connection and vitality. Surrounding the hall, local businesses provide a variety of culinary offerings, enhancing the communal experience whether enjoyed indoors or in the fresh air.
Rooted in the tradition of communal gathering spaces, the Market Hall boasts a bustling interior with large, family-style tables and sun-warmed plaza areas. These inviting spaces encourage social interactions throughout the year, from chilly winters to hot, dry summers. Cozy firepit nooks, welcoming fireplaces, and built-in seating offer comfortable spots for groups to relax and converse at any time of day.
Architecturally, the building features simple, sloped forms that reflect the scale and style of adjacent structures. Clad in durable dark ribbed metal and warm wood, the design ensures longevity and ease of maintenance. Inside, vendor stalls maintain a neutral aesthetic, allowing local businesses to showcase their unique identities through vibrant graphics and artwork, contributing to the market’s lively character.
Natural light floods the central space via a continuous clerestory window, complemented by overlapping wooden canopies that soften the illumination. Operable walls and tall windows at either end of the market invite fresh air and sunlight, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor experiences. As evening falls, strategically placed low-level plaza lights illuminate gathering areas, ensuring safe and inviting pathways for all who visit the Grove.
