The concept of “public space” has been transformed throughout history. According to the diverse disciplines such as sociology, anthropology and philosophy, this transformation has been generated from the gradual privatization of common spaces. This transformation has exacerbated due to inattention of public institu-tions which are in charge of leading issues related to the collective sphere. Alt-hough the importance of public sphere in everyday life has been enlightened by time, economical domination of ownership in building industry has resulted into disappearance of common spaces by private spaces.
The main purpose of the Green Eye House is rethinking the common spaces as public sphere in residential buildings to create vertical interactive neighborhood. To approach this goal, the first challenge was the anticipated program of city plans for site. Commercial space in ground floor was replaced by residential and open public space in the floors due to the collaboration among the design team, client and municipality. Concerning the location of the site which is adjacent to an ur-ban green public space, the open public space of the project was suggested next to this green axis. To produce this space, the building was designed with mezza-nines which its western side has placed an opening facing the green axis and city as an eye.
After years, by completion of the urban green public space, the Green Eye House and its context has become parts of a puzzle which could not represent a whole image of the without each other. Hence, it bears in mind that; Do the common good and social benefits start from the basic elements of the city; Architecture?
