The Boston Conservatory, a small institution of 535 students, trains artists for professional careers in music, dance, and theater. When the Conservatory outgrew its current facilities, located in several buildings on The Fenway, it engaged Handel Architects to provide master planning and programming studies, including the use of a vacant lot next to the existing campus theater. This led to the design of a new addition of 15,000 square feet on the vacant lot, coupled with an extensive renovation of the existing performance facility of 23,000 square feet, to create a single performing arts building with studios, practice spaces, a theater, rehearsal space, offices, and classrooms - The Hemenway Project.
