Upon entry to the TBG offices, the reception desk takes centre stage. It consists of two aspects that at first appear contradictory. Firstly, there was a functional requirement to have two levels for the counter – one at 1,150mm and the second at 1,050mm from floor level. And, secondly, there needed to be a clean aesthetic in the final design.
The MJMDA project team designed the front desk as two volumes, making them look cohesive and yet independent of each other with different materials. The front is clad in white statuario marble, covered in a back-sprayed glass that allows the marble detail to shine through. The edges were kept light and clean, glued onto a black plywood base. The idea here is that the desk can be assembled and disassembled easily should another relocation of offices occur.
