TERIBERKA / TRADITION / HERITAGE
The Teriberka church project is inspired by the lost Dormition Temple of the Virgin (Republic of Karelia) and refers to the traditions of Russian wooden architecture. The appearance of the church incorporates the proportions and elements characteristic of tented churches. The main materials are wood and glass.
WOODEN ARCHITECTURE
The wood in the project “transforms” into a new guise, revealing and exposing usually hidden building structure. Combining traditions and modern technologies in a new interpretation allows to preserve the heritage of wooden architecture and reflects a progressive approach to architecture.
OPENNESS / TRANSPARENCY
The large glasing area fills the temple with light and creates a permeable and open space.
SACREDITY
The composition of the facade helps to preserve the sacredness and intimacy of the temple. The density of the lamellas between the main frame elements increases towards the bottom and creating a private atmosphere.
PUBLIC SPACE / ATTRACTION / SOLEMNITY / NORTHERN LIGHTS / LIGHT
The space around the temple becomes a public square, making the temple a center of spiritual and cultural life. The complex includes the temple itself and a separate building with a belfry, a church shop and a refectory. Located on a hill, the temple becomes a landmark and symbol for local residents. Its transparent structure is reminiscent of a lighthouse, which attracts attention and serves as a gathering place for everyone. The transparent walls of the temple also allow to observe the northern lights - a unique natural phenomenon of the northern latitudes.
