The project aim was to create a 5-star resort at the northern Islands of Hurghada region known as Tawila Island, setting a benchmark project for the region in terms of the resort experience. Tawila Island Resort is intended to provide 120 Keys with a mix of inland and overwater bungalows, all-day dining, one signature specialty restaurant, pools (adults, kids), kids club, gym, spa, private beaches, pool bar, retail, and event spaces.
The main arrival building features a 35 meters high structure partially covered by a sustainable recyclable thatch material, marking the guest's arrival. A building that intends to be a contemporary reassemble of the Egyptian pyramids in a non-literal approach.
A guest room management system was installed to control lighting and cooling in guestrooms. When the bungalows are not occupied or windows/doors are open, the system will automatically switch to non-occupied mode and lower power and AC consumption.
The logistics for constructing a remote non habited island was the main challenge for this project. The use of locally sourced material to reduce delivery time for the construction components as well as construction systems which are littler weight and fast manufactured were key choices the design team had to face.
The landscape has been carefully designed to reduce water usage through a selection of local and adoptive plants that are salt tolerant.
The MEP design implemented the Sewage Treatment plant for the irrigation of the island. The sewage treatment plant will treat the sewage collected from the resort. The treated effluent will be used for landscape irrigation
A Photovoltaic solar farm has been incepted for the project. This will lower reliance on fuel and lower CO2 emissions.
Led lighting and heat recovery systems have been used in the project. These will lower power and cooling consumption.
This project is being developed closely with the Egyptian government, Environment Agency, and the Army marine engineering in order to protect the existing marine life on the island.
A large Back of House area is required as the infrastructure component for the island to work remotely from the mainland served with staff accommodation, sewage treatment plant, and desalination plant. Accessible by 45 min boat ride the project is to be one of a kind on the Egyptian Coast.
