Taipower Service Center’s Transformation into an "Urban Soul Charging Station"
The Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), Taiwan Power Company, JC. Architecture & Design (JC.) and SSelectLab worked together to use design power to drive public service innovation. They surveyed all service centers in Taiwan and divided them into three groups: metropolitan areas, suburban areas, and rural & remote islands, and used the Keelung District branch as a demonstration site.
The vision was to transform the service center into a place for knowledge and information exchange, create a service experience that meets the needs of future users, and use modular service facilities to establish a design that can be flexibly adjusted, applied, and implemented according to local conditions.
Open Taipower: Warm Wood and Neat Stainless Steel, a Composite Multifunctional Space
To promote communication and interaction between Taipower and the public, JC. opened the window view of the service hall to connect with the people and the city. Introducing ‘User Communication’ areas and ‘Culture Charging Stations’ makes Taipower service centers business offices akin to 7-11, alleyway coffee shops, or community curatorial centers, where people can sit down, communicate, and educate the next generation.
Create Spatial Variability: Modularization Service Facilities Revitalizes Taipower, Slogans are Trimmed in Yellow Details
In addition, JC. modularized service facilities to activate the idle space. The advantages of using geometric shapes to create space modularization are that it is easy to copy, clearly partitioned, interconnected, and flexibly utilized.
This approach can be applied to various areas to achieve visual consistency. In addition, the side of the drawer cabinet or door is edged with a distinctive yellow slogan. The inadvertent appearance brings unexpected little ideas to the user, indirectly allowing the user to focus on the slogan, achieving the purpose of publicity.
New Look of Exterior Lighting: The Facade Blends Metal Feel with Technological Aesthetics, and the Streamlined Curved Surface Echoes the Tianliao River
As for the aged appearance of the building, JC. incorporated a grid structure to create visual electricity. During the day, the metallic feel of the stainless steel mesh gives the old facade a new sense of technology. The curves extending through the exterior are also integrated with the bus pavilion. At night, lighting turns the facade into a beautiful night scene art. The streamlined curved surface used in the form also echoes the opposite Tianliao River, bringing a refreshing atmosphere to the public and demonstrating Taipower's commitment to urban development.
