A contemporary reinterpretation of the classic gable-roof silhouette
T17 takes the familiar pitched-roof archetype and distills it into a study of contrast — between mass and lightness, texture and smoothness, ground and elevation.
Concept
The composition is built on a clear volumetric split. A solid, weathered brick base anchors the house to the ground, its warm, textured surface grounding the design in materiality and permanence. Above it, a crisp white volume seems to hover — its steep gable form abstracted into clean, uninterrupted planes of render, broken only by a full-height glazed opening and a field of vertical slats that filter light and views while adding rhythm to the façade.
This upper volume reads almost as a separate object placed atop the base, an effect reinforced by the dark horizontal band that visually separates the two — a datum line that also houses the entrance canopy and carport structure below.
Materiality
Three primary materials carry the entire palette: rustic brick, smooth white render, and dark anthracite metalwork. The restraint is deliberate — each material is given room to express its own texture and shadow play, from the deep joints of the brickwork to the fine vertical cadence of the timber-look slats above.
At ground level, the brick wall becomes a canvas for landscape and identity alike, with the address numerals integrated directly into the masonry and a Japanese maple threading color through the composition.
