Spanning approximately 350 square meters across two levels set into the terrain, the residence is defined by its sweeping circular geometry and vast expanses of local slate. From the primary living floor, a 180-degree panorama unfolds, offering a view so vast that on clear days, the horizon stretches all the way to Norway.
The selection of this year’s laureate for "New Construction Adapted to Local Tradition" may invite intrigue. The exterior, characterized by a series of grand, interlocking circular forms, possesses a presence that is at once bold and uncompromising. Yet, both exterior and interior are unified by a profound simplicity and a rigorous consistency in expression, materiality, and finish.
These rounded contours, paired with a masterfully efficient floor plan, give rise to exquisite and imaginative spaces that harmonize deeply with the surrounding wilderness and the captivating vistas. Consistency and clarity—coupled with the tradition of significant homes in commanding positions—are hallmarks of the local architectural heritage. Thus, "Villa Victor" stands as a testament to imaginative innovation, rooted firmly in tradition and the unique conditions of its site.
The Victor family had long envisioned their home upon the heights of Berge on Frösön. Drawn to the distinctive architectural language of Pål Ross, they entrusted him to breathe life into their vision. The upper level reveals an expansive, fluid sanctuary housing the kitchen, dining, and living areas, alongside four bedrooms and several baths. The lower level accommodates the grand entrance, guest quarters, a wellness suite, and specialized hobby and technical spaces.
The soul of the house is found in its meticulous craftsmanship. Walls, both inside and out, are finished in a serene white, while the lower facade and select interior walls are draped in a delicate masonry of thousands of hand-split pieces of Offerdal slate—a labor of love by the owner himself. Built with a structural core of reinforced concrete and crowned with a sleek black standing-seam roof, the villa utilizes noble materials like stone and wood to ensure a timeless permanence. Villa Victor is a dialogue between a family’s dream and the enduring strength of the mountain,
