One of the most important progresses which have been achieved in the urbanity of Santiago de Chile in recent years is the conquest of the underground surface as another noble and full of potential urban layer.
Numerous successful examples already built and several other projects soon to be made, demonstrate the validity and the necessity for a city like Santiago to harness that latent potential.
We propose a more complex and pedestrian Bulnes promenade, adding new underground levels as an integrated parallel system in basement.
It plans to create three basements, with their extensive connections open to the outside on the Paseo, where the two lower are conceived
for parking space. The gallery level, just under the street level walkway is the most important one. It will be connected to the street level and to the surroundings public buildings, enhancing the connectivity for noble activities and for the new Civic Axis’ programmatic offer. Furthermore, the gallery level connects directly to new public and private buildings undergrounds levels to be built on the vacant sites to complete the architectural structure of the Promenade.
Here we will empower the whole promenade integrating throughout its course new programs capable of accommodating commercial, cultural, and infrastructure services that greatly potentiate life is this urban space.
This gallery level will be connected to the surface by large sunken courtyards ride. Thus, on the surface street level, the flow is now shifted by two pedestrian lateral zones, contacting it with existing commercial facades,
energizing the said stores and leaving a central area for activities of rest, such as benches and tables cafes restaurants.
