The Straubenhardt project is being built in response to the increasing urban development of the area, which is located on the border between Straubenhardt and Pfinzweiler. It will also serve as an entrance to the new rail link to Karlsruhe and will house several of the city's public buildings.
The main idea of the project is to integrate different uses and seek new forms of living, working and producing on a common site. A base of underground production halls is proposed, on which there is a large green area and residential and buildings with different uses. The project aims to highlight Villa Kling, an important center for meetings and culture in the area, and integrate with common green spaces.
The design of the project used prefabricated modules for the production halls and double facades for the upper buildings, which serve as supports for balconies, photovoltaic panels and green facades. This strategy allows the energy consumed in the project to be generated and the habitability of the spaces to be improved through passive strategies.
