The project was designed for a prominent site in Stillorgan. It is situated at a bend in the road and on-axis with Kilmacud Road from Stillorgan village. The proposed building initially continues the established terrace of two storey buildings . It then turns and rises in height to form a landmark. This landmark would be visible from distance uphill. A new public open space is formed addressing his landmark element of the scheme.
The proposal was for retail and cafe at ground loor level and a creche overhead. The geometry of the building relects the
cafe/bar and creche’s orietation towards the public space and the retail unit’s alignment with the existing terrace of shops.
The cafe/bar opens onto this east and south facing space. It is entered via a double height space and opens onto a balcony at irst loor level which also overlooks and animates the open space. The creche is accessed via a dramatic circulation tower on the south side of the building. A dedicated secure external play space / green roof is provided directly off the creche. All plant areas are screened from view by storey height louvres. Quality materials are proposed thoughout the scheme, from the curtain walling and tegral ‘natura’ cladding of the building to the proposed granite paving to the new public open space.
