Construction of this $10.9 million project combined the St. Albert Fire and EMS Headquarters with St. Albert Fire Station No. 3. This project was completed in 2010 and accommodates 85 staff in 17,384 sf.. Headquarters include administration offices, a communications centre, and emergency and training operations areas.
Fire Station No. 3 includes vehicle bays, operations and support spaces, 12 sleeping rooms, and a hose-training tower. A great deal of attention was paid during the sustainable design and construction to provide the highest possible environmental quality for the interior, while reducing maintenance costs and resource consumption. The Station is the first fire hall in Alberta and the second in Canada to receive LEED® Gold Certification.
This environmental designation was made a high priority for the benefit of the firefighters who work there and are too often exposed to hazardous materials and environments while on the job of saving lives. Low V.O.C. paints and finishes were used on surfaces, along with furnishings that had been GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®.
