The project solves an ambitious functional program which combines the main uses of the swimming pool area with different complementary sports uses. The formal response to the above mentioned approach consists of the arrangement of volumes according to their uses.In so doing, the building humanizes its scale while clarifying its operation. The swimming pools are located within a formally uniform zone which constitutes a glazed prism which captures as much natural light as possible making it possible for all spaces to ventilate. This main area is complemented by the development of a surrounding skin framing the building. A dialogue between two elements is generated: the main body and the element which surrounds it.The complex has three swimming pools: one with six 25m long lanes; one for learning, and another one provided with water beds, jacuzzi and water massaging jets. It has total built-up area of 5,507.9 m², within a plot of 4000m2. The sports ground has five activity rooms, one for fitness and cardiovascular one, two paddle tennis courts and an outdoor solarium. The building is organized into an access floor, first floor and basement. The building has a very compact and regular shape which improves its thermal performance by reducing the thermal losses through the facade. Also, it has double-high areas under a great skylight located in the roof skylight providing a great light stream over the gyms and corridors reducing light energy consumption. The building facades have a ventilation space made of stone with a ventilated air chamber. This condition improves the facade thermal performance. It has big windows facing the swimming pool and the activity rooms. They do not only produce a great quantity of light, they also heat the rooms. Curtains are also installed on the outside of the building so that there is thermal control during the summer time. The complex has solar panels on the roof which will work as a water heating system for both the swimming pools and for sanitary use.
