The tonal symbol of the expo.02: The structure of one of the three towers designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au for the Arteplage Biel carries an interactive musical instrument. A virtual, acoustic kaleidophone is simulated through a unique loudspeaker constellation. Tonal vertical vortexes are employed in creating the different spatial sound experiences. The soundstream is based on a weekly composition, which itself is composed of seven audio levels that on the one hand, react to the sorrounding environment, and on the other are influenced by musicians whose live interventions become part of the installation. The artistic concept delivered by the sound-architect, Andres Bosshard, resulted in a dynamic co-operation from planning through realisation with the oos team, sound specialists, and musicians. The resulting capsule became an elevated «orchestral pit» for the musicians, a cocoon, suspended three metres above ground, to be opened and closed when needed. The roof, when lowered, becomes a stage. The capsule will acompany the sound architect Andres Bosshard, on a travelling tour, in various events through Europe after the expo.02.
