Unispace collaborated with Smith+Nephew to design and deliver a state-of-the-art Surgical Innovation and Training Academy in Munich, a flagship facility for advanced medical training and research. This 38,000 sqft space accommodates up to 5,000 healthcare professionals annually, fostering innovation in orthopaedics, wound management and sports medicine.
Located in a remodelled 1970s building, the project overcame significant structural challenges to create a seamless and cutting-edge space. Featuring wet and dry labs, virtual reality (VR) training rooms, an auditorium and exhibition areas, the facility integrates advanced technology and robust infrastructure to support its technical needs. The design reflects Smith+Nephew’s brand identity through a fresh colour palette, interactive installations and local cultural references like the Allianz Arena-inspired entrance tunnel. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, this world-class academy establishes a new benchmark for medical training environments, empowering healthcare professionals to transform patient care.
