Slavija square is one of the biggest traffic knots in Belgrade, therefore in whole Serbia. Also, the history of the place is very complex, and every intervention in it bears a social burden. Reconstruction of the site has been a topic ofseveral competitions and numerous discussions. The task given by jury was to offer traffic solution, design a huge fountain and choose a position for a famous and a bit controversial monument from the center of the present square. The solution we offered is one huge plate under the Square, providing all the necessary requirements, simultaneously solving the biggest problem of intersecting of pedestrian and car traffic. Clear construction design and a lace-like layer of roads above the plate are showing our intention to make the square familiar to the visitors. In order to keep the character of the square, the lace is punctured with a huge hole that is offering sun, sky, rain and snow to the plate. Pedestrian connections are going deeply to the surroundings, thus avoiding any dangers from the street and connecting the new square in an invisible manner of cross-fading.
