Forum Studio was engaged to design a new state-of-the art manufacturing facility for SKF. SKF had outgrown the limited footprint of the space they had occupied for the past 100 years, and wanted a new, premier headquarters building for their North America operations. Forum Studio’s designers created a world-class design solution in collaboration with SKF’s local and international team to bridge the gap between the international and local office culture.
Full-height glass windows and skylights in the new headquarters building flood workspaces with natural light and offer many views to the outdoors. A patio and balcony offer employees outdoor options for a break to take in a breath of fresh air or eat a meal. Additionally, there is a large break room/café space with on-site dining options through local food vendors.
The new building allowed for SKF to move to an open office concept that encourages interactions not only at workstation, but also in adjacent collaboration hubs. These hubs and a central, monument stair with floating treads, connect the public areas on each floor and breaks down the walls between departments. The lobby features unique company relics which tell the story of the transformation of the company.
Sustainable design is paramount to SKF, the design creates an enhanced environment for employees and reduces the environmental impact of the facility and their process. This facility is targeting LEED Gold.
