The Siu Sai Wan Complex provides a host of leisure and recreational facilities within an iconic green building envelope for residents of Hong Kong Island’s Eastern District.
The Complex’s journey begins with “timber-look” sun-shading screens that march from exterior to interior. An atrium, designed as a a “vertical street”, houses balconies, platforms and paths which spiral up strategically. The atrium also gives visitors views around the entire building as they travel upwards, enriching the liveliness of the streetscape.
Topped with frosted glass and with horizontal sun-shading slats on the two open sides, the atrium is lofty, naturally-ventilated and lit with daylight. The Complex’s energy consumption is greatly reduced as a result of its green features, while public interaction is encouraged and facilitated at the same time.
