Shelter Stay is built on a 100m² site in Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang. On a typical urban plot found in many Vietnamese cities, the project explores how living spaces can create stronger connections with nature within dense urban conditions.
Instead of the conventional townhouse layout with stacked floors, balconies, and windows, the design is inspired by a composition of modular green blocks. Functions are arranged rhythmically along the vertical space, creating diverse spatial experiences throughout the house.
A central skylight brings natural light and ventilation deep into the interior while forming a green core filled with tropical plants. The staircase becomes a continuous journey through the house, connecting spaces from the ground floor to the rooftop.
Green blocks are used not only for planting outside but also integrated into the interior as wardrobes, work desks, bathrooms, and storage elements. This approach creates a close relationship between architecture, interior design, and nature.
The exterior uses washed stone with a rough texture that changes under sunlight and greenery while responding well to the climate of Central Vietnam. Inside, handcrafted finishes create a natural and tactile atmosphere.
Shelter Stay is not simply a house, but an exploration of nature within urban living.
