The master plan for the Sejongsi Government Ministries 2-1 is located in one of the worlds top new sustainable new town developments. The vision for the project is to complete the second phase of a zero-footprint self-sustaining modern city supporting the relocation of government ministries of Korea including Health & Welfare, Employment & Labor, and Patriots & Veterans Affairs. This relocation is from the heavily populated city of Seoul to the satellite city of Sejong. Some refere to the overall master plan as the “Brasilia of Korea”; a new city build from scratch ot accommodate the central government in a more central location on the Korean Peninsula. Announced in 2002, officalized in 2005, and breaking ground on construction in 2007, it plans to complete the new city development by 2030 and will support 4 million people. The design embraces the concept of a “flat city.” The new government ministries are located in a long serendipitous 6-story building with green street level, atrium, courtyards, and narrow office floor-plates for natural light and ventilation and green roof set over a traditional rectilinear urban grid.
