This project, is three facilities in one: a six-bay fire station, an Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and a Fire Alarm Center (911). The facility also serves as Seattle’s primary hazardous materials response unit. Supplemental program elements include 44 structured parking spaces, a large exterior apparatus apron, a public plaza, vegetated roof patios, and a landscaped blast setback. The project is LEED silver sustainably designed providing energy & water conservation and stormwater runoff reduction benefits.
This project offers a strong civic identity for this important building type. From a design standpoint, it draws on local urban cultural traditions, favoring tough associations to industry, infrastructure, and technology. It is a sensitively contextual building, drawing many cues from its rich and diverse urban context. The building is a strong symbol within its downtown neighborhood.
