Scott Base Redevelopment

Antarctica

STATUS
Under Construction
YEAR
2029
SIZE
100,000 sqft - 300,000 sqft
BUDGET
$100M +
The redevelopment of Scott Base will be arranged in three inter-connected buildings offset from each other and elevated above ground to minimise snow drift. The base will provide accommodation for 100 people and minimise environmental impact. Interior design will foster well-being and reflect Māori values. The upper building contains living and recreational spaces. The middle building contains laboratories, offices and science expedition preparation. The lower building contains engineering workshops, cargo handling, storage and waste management areas. The base will be constructed off site and shipped to Antarctica in eight super-sized modules where they will be zipped together ready for the next generation of New Zealand polar science. Construction will complete in 2029.
