Context/Program- a two bedroom south facing apartment requiring a cosmetic changeover.
International in perspective, the clients are a professional couple, he a writer on food/wine/travel, she an executive of the cosmetics industry. Their space of living was to be opened up as much as possible, to loft its sneene of interiorty. The architecture was to be sedately controlled- muted colors, hard material surfaces, minimal expressiveness. A stone floor runs throughout mixing a honed finish against flamed accents. A linen wall covering is framed with a steel edge along the entrance hall. All cabinetwork is trimmed in solid maple and overlaid with an effervescent italian laminate. The fireplace and baseboard radiators are covered in punched sandblasted stainless steel. In short, it has the formal sense of a museum except for the few moments where playfulness erupts in the patterning of the chosen materials.
