The Scadding Court Community Centre Complex is a multi-use proposal consisting of ten stories of co-operative housing, a 3-storey health complex, day care and renovations to the community centre and Sanderson Branch Library (Toronto Public Library). The vision is to provide a number of complementary functions under one roof to serve the local community.
The design began with an intensive Building Program Study and bubble diagramming to find where program functions overlaps and can be shared between the six different partners. Because the new building program occupies some of the existing parklands, the proposal attempts to re-claim this green space by ramping the parkland up and over the existing building onto the roof. The resulting hill will be unique to Toronto, allowing for an amphitheatre in the summer and tobogganing in the winter.
The community is currently fund-raising for construction costs.
