Utilizing the entire design-build resources of Clayco / LJC to meet the owner’s fast-paced schedule without compromising design quality.
The Victory Village Student Housing Project is Clayco’s 4th and LJC + Clayco’s 3rd Design-Build project with SCAD. The 650-bed Suite style Residential Hall expands over 2 blocks in Savannah’s Historic Streetcar District. Programmatic features of the buildings include a 260 stall parking deck, a mix of 4-bed and 2-bed suites with kitchenettes along with studio spaces totaling approximately 250,000 square feet of living space. The units developed within were a new product type for SCAD having a ratio of 173 gross square feet per person. This size per student becomes critical once Covid-19 hits Included in the program are outdoor amenities, and common support spaces including lounges per floor, laundry rooms, study rooms, art studios at the street level, computer labs, and resident life offices.
The exterior composition of both buildings was necessary within the context of this historic district. The team designed the façade to exceed the certificate of appropriateness within Savannah by focusing on scale and façade detailing. Breaking down the mass of these 4 and 5 story buildings complemented the surrounding residential houses while fitting into the neighborhood with grace.
