The primary focus on the Saybolt project was to excavate a central core of light to breathe life into the inner workings of the offices. Now bathed in light, the peripheral apertures come across as picture frames that peek out onto the surrounding environment.
To boost productivity, we transformed the centre of the space into a communicative interface – a hub that connects all the various parts of the office. Keeping in mind Saybolt’s brand and corporate image, we used blue, white and grey and kept the space clean and uncluttered.
As we designed the office’s layers, we were inspired by stratified rock. From the way the façade manifests itself to the selection of internal materials, we playfully imagined that, in between the strata, black gold would trickle down the walls. The boardroom is that oil bubble, just reaching the surface and turning into a black finish. And to tie the entire look together, we inserted a rope curtain with a print of an oily fist to represent perseverance in the industry.
