Project for the construction of Santiago del Estero’s Honourable City Council building.
First Prize winner for a National Architecture Competition
In regards to the building and its emplacement –being set adjacent to a historical train station- we have preferred to separate both buildings, maintaining the old station in its original site with its reminiscent role, and giving the new edification a possibility to unfold within its own territory.
Responding to the idea that a city precedes the buildings, we have proposed a park on Libertad Avenue, reinforcing this street’s character within the city, transforming it into a lineal urban promenade that articulates different activities of importance to the people of Santiago.
Shifted towards Pringles Street, the new building is directly related to the broad sidewalk of Libertad Avenue. Its ground floor becomes a great public agora that precedes and surrounds the Main Session Room, in which the neighbourhood’s representatives develop the main political activity. Both the representatives and the represented are fused in a single building’s image.
