his sustainably designed energy efficient home sits on twenty-eight bucolic acres in the Santa Lucia Preserve near Carmel, California. The home is made up of a series of three one-story pavilions that step down with the pre-existing topography and are oriented in a radiating configuration. Each pavilion is turned approximately ten degrees in an arc across the site to provide varying views towards the surrounding oak lined hills. To complement the beauty of the unique surrounding landscape and provide the durability that our clients expected, we selected ‘living’ materials including limestone for the exterior walls, Cor-ten steel for the soffits and eaves, bronze cladding for the doors and windows, and slate for the roof.
